YAMM

YAMM, short for Yet Another Mail Merge, sends personalized emails from Gmail using a Google Sheets contact list. The sender writes a Gmail draft, adds merge markers for spreadsheet columns and launches the campaign from the Sheets add on. Links, images, attachments and CC or BCC recipients can vary by row.

Campaign tracking returns opens, clicks, replies, bounces and unsubscribes to the spreadsheet. Follow ups target everyone or a selected response group, and can continue the original email thread. They are launched as separate campaigns. Scheduled sends have their own dashboard cancellation control; removing a status cell from the sheet does not cancel the schedule.

Free companion web tools generate email drafts and subject lines with OpenAI gpt-4o-mini. The sender reviews and copies that text into Gmail. These tools do not turn a spreadsheet campaign into an autonomous sales agent. The underlying mail merge, tracking and scheduling functions operate without AI.

HubSpot workflows use a separate connector to bring contacts into Sheets and a BCC address to log outgoing mail. Google Forms submissions can trigger messages automatically. Contact data and drafts stay in the customer's Google account, with YAMM retaining campaign metadata and the addresses needed for suppression management.

Paid individual plans bill annually at $72 for personal Gmail or $144 for Google Workspace. Sending capacity depends on the Google account and its maturity, with lower limits on new Workspace accounts. The service fits sales, partnerships and other outreach teams already working in Sheets. Talarian maintains a public ISO 27001 certificate and DPA; account deletion requires a support request even after the add on is removed.

AI Capability
AI CentralityAI CentralityWhether AI is the product or a feature veneer. The removal test: peel the AI label off, and does anything sellable remain?
CC on AI CentralityAI features on a conventional platform. Peel the AI label off and the product still works roughly as before.
Vendor Published

YAMM is a mail merge first. Its free web tools, an Email Writer and a Subject Line Generator, use OpenAI gpt-4o-mini to turn a topic and supporting details into alternative copy for the sender to edit, and that text is copied into a Gmail draft by hand. Personalization from sheet columns, =IMAGE() and =HYPERLINK() formulas, personalized attachments, scheduling, follow ups and tracking all work without these tools. The AI never chooses recipients or launches a merge, so removing it leaves the product unchanged.

Autonomy and Oversight ModelAutonomy and Oversight ModelWhat the system does without a human. Draft for review, auto send, or fully agentic, and what contains a bad run.
BB on Autonomy and Oversight ModelThe human in the loop posture is described substantively (draft versus auto send, approval flows) but the failure containment story is incomplete.
Vendor Published

A sender selects the Gmail draft, recipient sheet and tracking settings before launching each merge, and rows that are or filtered out in the sheet are skipped. Follow ups need a new audience selection and send action, and they can continue in the original thread. Scheduled merges are canceled from the dashboard, since deleting a sheet's status cell does not cancel them, and only one merge can be scheduled at a time. Interrupting a batch already sending has a less definite control path. Over quota merges split automatically across days rather than failing.

AI Disclosure and Model TransparencyAI Disclosure and Model TransparencyWhat models power the product, whether AI generated outreach discloses itself, and whether scoring and routing logic is explainable.
BB on AI Disclosure and Model TransparencyMeaningful disclosure of the model stack or the disclosure posture, with one real gap, commonly silence on whether AI authored outreach identifies itself.
Vendor Published

The Email Writer and Subject Line Generator use OpenAI gpt-4o-mini. A recipient facing AI authorship notice has no default in this workflow. The tools are separate from the Google Sheets add on, so an ordinary mail merge does not automatically use AI. The sender supplies a topic and details, reviews the generated wording and copies the selected text into a Gmail draft.

Operational and Outcome EvidenceOperational and Outcome EvidenceMeasured outcomes with a stated basis: replies, meetings, pipeline, win rates. Logos are not evidence and prestige is not measurement.
CC on Operational and Outcome EvidenceOutcome claims are headline percentages with no stated basis, or customer logos standing in for results.
Vendor Published

YAMM's evidence is reach rather than measured results: it says the add on has been installed more than 16 million times, and customer logos include Uber, DoorDash and Yelp alongside universities and nonprofit organizations. Sales and partnership teams use it to personalize outreach from their own contact sheets, and testimonials emphasize time saved over sending one by one. None ties a sales result to a defined campaign or period. Within the product, each merge reports opens, clicks, replies, bounces and unsubscribes back to the sheet, and a usage dashboard shows sending over time.

Compliance and Risk
Outreach Compliance PostureOutreach Compliance PostureHow the product handles regulated outreach: consent, DNC scrubbing, opt out mechanics, caller ID conduct, and the public enforcement record.
BB on Outreach Compliance PostureSubstantive compliance features documented in product, but material questions (litigation history, caller ID practices, where responsibility transfers to the customer) go unaddressed.
Vendor Published

Unsubscribe links work only when email tracking is enabled, and the launch panel warns when tracking is off. Unsubscribed addresses appear in the contact sheet and on a reusable suppression list, and later merges prompt the sender to skip them, though the list can be edited by hand. Follow up campaigns exclude bounced and unsubscribed recipients, and YAMM warns about addresses that bounced in the past. YAMM discourages deceptive sender names, subjects and reply addresses. Consent collection, and the choice to include an unsubscribe link at all, stay with the sender.

Data Privacy PostureData Privacy PostureGDPR and CCPA posture: lawful basis, data subject rights handling, DPA availability, subprocessor disclosure.
AA on Data Privacy PostureGDPR and CCPA posture documented with specifics: lawful basis stated, DSR handling described, DPA published and signable, subprocessors listed.
Vendor Published

The service processes customer mail merge data under a public DPA, with controller and processor roles, rights handling and a list of subprocessors. Contract and legitimate interest grounds are separated in the privacy policy; application data is used to provide the service. Restricted international transfers use EU Standard Contractual Clauses and a UK addendum. The DPA also limits sale and reuse of California customer personal information.

Data Licensing and ProvenanceData Licensing and ProvenanceWhere the data comes from and on what legal footing: licensed, contributed, public record, or scraped, and who stands behind the answer.
BB on Data Licensing and ProvenanceProvenance is substantively described but incompletely: sourcing classes named without the legal footing, or indemnification unstated.
Vendor Published

Contact lists come from the customer's Google Sheets, Google Contacts, which import in one click, or CRM imports. Personalization values are columns the customer supplies rather than records from a YAMM prospect database, and merge markers insert the chosen fields, links, images and attachments into the Gmail draft. The customer keeps ownership of uploaded content and warrants the rights and permissions needed to use it. Those terms settle responsibility for the input without checking each contact's origin. Google Forms submissions can add new recipients as they arrive.

Platform Terms ExposurePlatform Terms ExposureWhether the product operates inside the terms of the platforms it touches, and the restriction risk a buyer inherits when it does not.
DD on Platform Terms ExposureThe method visibly violates platform terms (headless automation of a prohibiting platform), or the vendor’s account restriction record is public and unacknowledged.
Vendor Published

Mail merges send through the user's Google account, with permissions governed by Google's API user data rules. YAMM recognizes Google's independent sending restrictions and applies account specific quotas. Its pricing FAQ also promotes multiple Google accounts for sending beyond one account's daily allowance. The method involves switching browser profiles and running separate merges, not automatic inbox rotation; each account still has its own quota and restriction risk.

AI Safety and Data StewardshipAI Safety and Data StewardshipThe cross client boundary: whether customer data trains models that serve competitors, plus retention and deletion posture.
CC on AI Safety and Data StewardshipSecurity language exists but the training question, the one this axis turns on, is unanswered: a buyer cannot tell whether their pipeline data improves a competitor’s instance.
Vendor Published

The DPA limits processing to service instructions and permits retained, deidentified information to improve systems and services. Google account data has additional Limited Use restrictions. The free AI writing tools name OpenAI, but their training and retention treatment is not resolved by the YAMM subprocessor list, which assigns OpenAI to the separate GPT for Work product. Draft generation starts with text entered into the web form.

Recipient Disclosure and AuthenticityRecipient Disclosure and AuthenticityHow the product presents itself to the people it targets: whether automated outreach and AI agents disclose themselves, whether sender personas are real, and whether personalization is grounded in verifiable fact. Measured as known compliance with Article 50 of the EU AI Act, in force since August 2, 2026, which requires AI systems that interact with individuals to disclose that fact.
CC on Recipient Disclosure and AuthenticityNothing published on whether recipients are told they are dealing with software. For a product whose AI talks to prospects, silence here is now a regulatory posture, not a style choice.
Vendor Published

Personalized messages use the sender's Gmail identity or a configured alias, with names and other details taken from the contact sheet. YAMM discourages deceptive sender names, subjects and reply addresses. AI assistance happens during drafting, before the sender chooses the final message. The product has no clear recipient disclosure position for that assistance. Follow ups can retain the same subject and mailbox to stay in the original thread.

Integration and Deployment
Ecosystem and Integration DepthEcosystem and Integration DepthDocumented depth of CRM and stack integration: objects, sync direction, API surface, marketplace presence that matches the claims.
BB on Ecosystem and Integration DepthSolid primary CRM integration documented, with depth unstated at the edges (sync direction, custom objects, failure behavior).
Vendor Published

Google Sheets holds recipients and merge fields, and Gmail holds the template, layouts and sent messages; custom HTML templates and Gmail Layouts both work. HubSpot contacts can enter Sheets through the separate Awesome Table Connectors add on, and a HubSpot BCC address records outgoing messages against contacts, an import and logging workflow rather than continuous CRM synchronization. Google Forms submissions can trigger a personalized email through a configured merge, and one click surveys collect replies inside a message. Sending through a Gmail alias is supported.

Deployment Model and Data ResidencyDeployment Model and Data ResidencyWhere the product runs and where customer data lives, including residency options for EU buyers.
BB on Deployment Model and Data ResidencyThe deployment model is clear and residency options are partially specified.
Vendor Published

YAMM uses a Google Workspace add on and hosted dashboard, with Google Cloud processing in Iowa and international support and monitoring providers. Ordinary setup does not include region selection. Gmail drafts and spreadsheet contents stay in the customer's Google account rather than the YAMM database. YAMM retains account details, campaign metadata, tracking events and addresses needed for bounce and unsubscribe management.

Security Certifications and Trust CenterSecurity Certifications and Trust CenterVerifiable security posture: enumerated current certifications and a trust center an outsider can actually read.
AA on Security Certifications and Trust CenterA live trust center with enumerated, current certifications (SOC 2 Type II and peers), audit recency visible, and security practices documented beyond the badge.
Vendor Published

Talarian's live trust center includes ISO 27001 materials and a public AFNOR certificate covering its development and marketing of professional cloud applications. The certificate runs from March 2025 through December 2027. Security materials cover access control, incident handling and testing, with the DPA setting out organizational responsibilities. Application data uses Google Cloud services, and support access to a customer's spreadsheet requires that customer to share it.

Commercial and Operational
Commercial TransparencyCommercial TransparencyWhether a buyer can budget without a sales call. Published pricing graded on completeness, not on the price itself.
BB on Commercial TransparencyPartial pricing published (entry tiers real, enterprise opaque) or pricing published with load bearing exclusions.
Vendor Published

Individual Pro subscriptions cost $72 a year for personal Gmail, shown as $6 a month, or $144 for Google Workspace, shown as $12; both are billed annually. The Free plan sends to 20 recipients a day with no branded footer. Team pricing uses the Workspace rate per user, and deployments above 100 users get a quote. Taxes and billing country can change the total. The pricing table includes scheduling under Free while the scheduling instructions require Pro. Custom legal agreements and vendor security assessments are priced separately.

Exit and Data PortabilityExit and Data PortabilityWhat happens when a customer leaves: completeness of data export, rights to enriched or licensed data after termination, deletion commitments, and auto renewal mechanics, graded from published terms and documentation.
BB on Exit and Data PortabilityReal export capability documented, with a material exit question unstated in public terms, commonly post termination rights to licensed or enriched records.
Vendor Published

The contact sheet and Gmail drafts stay in the customer's Google account, and campaign statuses remain in the spreadsheet alongside the recipients, so the working record never leaves the customer's own tools. The contract requires written cancellation notice at least 30 days before renewal and makes paid fees nonrefundable. Removing the add on or revoking access does not delete the account data YAMM holds, which covers campaign metadata, tracking events and suppression addresses. Deleting that data takes a support request, and the DPA allows up to 90 days to complete it.

Deliverability and Sending DisciplineDeliverability and Sending DisciplineThe operational craft of sending: warmup, rotation, volume governance, spam rate monitoring, and what happens when reputation degrades.
BB on Deliverability and Sending DisciplineReal deliverability features documented, with the operating discipline (limits, monitoring, intervention) asserted rather than specified.
Vendor Published

Sending quotas count every recipient, CC and BCC included, over a rolling 24 hour period. Free allows up to 20 recipients a day; Pro allows up to 400 on personal Gmail and 1,500 on established Google Workspace accounts, while new Workspace accounts start lower. Oversized merges split automatically across days, and scheduled sends can hold back quota for other mail. YAMM warns about addresses that bounced before, tracks bounces in each merge and gives SPF setup guidance. It frames inbox placement as dependent on Gmail's own filtering rather than something the add on controls.

Segment and Market CoverageSegment and Market CoverageWho the product actually serves, evidenced: segments, geographies, languages, and customers that match the claim.
BB on Segment and Market CoverageSegment focus is clear and evidenced with a gap in geographic or language specifics.
Vendor Published

YAMM serves teams that keep outreach lists in Sheets, with uses spanning sales, partnerships, recruiting, event invitations, surveys and newsletters, and it says the add on has been installed more than 16 million times. Universities and nonprofits use it alongside companies such as Uber and DoorDash. Individual subscriptions cover one Google account, while Team and Unlimited plans serve larger organizations. Language and regional coverage get little detail. The sender prepares the audience and Gmail draft without moving either into a separate sales workspace.
